Going Down!

I got Keegan's results of his blood test today... 3.1!! We are so happy to see his INR finally in a safe range. Now his Cardiologist needs to decide when and how much Coumadin he should get. Keegan needs to have another test done on Monday. Just to make sure his INR isn't jumping around again. He also has a bit of a cough right now. Just pray it goes away before his surgery. His doctor wants Keegan to eat things with vitamin K in them. Which just happen to be green veggies. Keegan doesn't eat veggies. So tomorrow I am going to make him a broccoli shake. The doctor said most kids love it. We'll see.

Another Blood Test

Keegan's INR level is still high. Today it was 6.79. His cardiologist is very confused why it is still so high. Normally after 2-3 days of being off Coumadin, it is out of your system. Keegan has been off it for 5 days now, and he still has to much in his system. We have to go back to Children's Hospital on Friday to have another blood test done, and to talk to a specialist.

Still to high

Keegan's cardiologist called and said that Keegan's INR level is still very high. We are going into Boston tomorrow morning to get more blood work and talk to a specialist. Hopefully we will find out whats going on. More later...

Poor baby

Here are some pictures of Keegan's arm after all he was released from the hospital. Most of the bruises are from Emerson ER. Keegan has very small veins and it is always difficult to get blood from him. After the nurses stuck him 3 times, they finally called a pediatric doctor to come and draw the blood. Because of his high Coumadin level, he bruised very easily. We went to Children's hospital in Lexington today to have more blood work done, and they had a hard time finding a vein to use. We are still waiting to hear the results of that test. Yesterday his INR level, (coumadin level), was 8.1. His cardiologist wants it to be between 2-3. ...I'll update later with results

We're home!

What a crazy weekend. Let me start off by saying, "Happy Thanksgiving." I hope everyone had a great day and lots of food! We stayed at home and had turkey. Friday I braved the crowds and went out shopping. I have finished shopping for the kids. Yea me! On Saturday, we set up our Christmas tree!! All was going well until Keegan got so excited about the tree, he lost his balance and hit his lip on a little table. He got a tiny cut on the inside of his lip and it would not stop bleeding. I took him to the ER and they did blood work and found out the his Coumadin level (INR level, for those of you who speak medical), was so high it was unreadable. Coumadin thins the blood so it won't clot, therefore, that's why his lip wouldn't stop bleeding. Finally at 2 am Children's Hospital decided Keegan should be transfer over to their care. He was given a couple of shots of vitamin K to courter act the Coumadin. Keegan was released from the hospital on Monday afternoon. He has to get another blood test on Tuesday morning. But everything is going well. He isn't have any major side effects as a result of the high Coumadin level. Only a little lost sleep from the hospital stay. Coumadin is a difficult drug to regulate. Every person metabolize it differently. It's a numbers game that will take time to get the correct dose. In the mean time, Keegan will be monitored closely to make sure we don't have a repeat incident like this one. I wish everyone happy shopping for the holidays!!!

Keegan's Surgery Date

Keegan will go into surgery on December 14. He has pre-op on the 13. My mom is coming up from Florida to watch Courtney and will be here on the 12. We are busy getting all our Christmas shopping done. Again, please pray Keegan won't get sick before the surgery and that he will be home in time for Christmas.

Keegan update

Keegan had his heart catheterization on Wednesday. Everything went really well. It lasted about 3 hours, and they discovered the problem. The left side of his heart, (the side that doesn't work), is much larger than it should be. It is taking up room from the right side. It is also restricting blood flow to the left lung. So Keegan will have surgery sometime in the next 3 weeks. Please pray that Keegan doesn't get sick before the surgery. He is doing great now. Here are some pictures of Keegan in his bed at the hospital. He was released on Friday afternoon on a new medicine, Coumadin.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!! We had a great night. The kids had so much fun! Keegan was very happy after the first house. He got skittles and pretzels (one for each hand!) Courtney said trick or treat to every house and thank you to everyone. She was very happy to walk around and get candy. I have a video up on myspace. Keegan is doing okay. He is having his heart cath on November 14. Please pray that he stays healthy so we don't have to reschedule. Here are some pictures of Halloween. Courtney was a cat and Keegan was a mouse, although he didn't wear his ears.
